即使我們消除了物質的貧困，我們還面臨一個更大的任務，那就是---滿足的貧困，目標的貧困，尊嚴的貧困---還困擾著我們每一個人。在太長時間裡，我們太注重物質的積累，而放棄了個人的美德和社會的價值。

But even if we act to erase material poverty,there is another greater task, it is to confront the poverty ofsatisfaction - purpose and dignity - that afflicts us all.Too muchand for too long, we seemed to have surrendered personal excellenceand community values in the mere accumulation of materialthings.

It counts special locks for our doors and thejails for the people who break them. It countsWhitman's rifle and Speck's knife, and thetelevision programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys toour children.
